31 March 2016 – Speaker Roger Hance FRPS

Roger Hance FRPS, a photographer based in Colchester will be joining us with his talk entitled “With a little help from my Friends”. This will be at our usual venue from 7.45pm to 9.45pm.

rogerAfter attending a photography evening class, Roger joined Ipswich and District Photographic Society nearly 30 years ago where he remains a member to this day. It was through meeting like-minded people that my passion for photography was encouraged to develop.

He joined the Royal Photographic Society in 1985 and gained a certain degree of notoriety in 1990 when he was awarded three Fellowships simultaneously in the Portrait, Applied and Pictorial sections. In the same year he also won the `Amateur Photographer of the Year Award` in the AP magazine, judged by Patrick Lichfield. The following year in 1991, he was invited to go on the RPS Licentiateship Assessment Panel and I served on this for 8 years. Roger now has 4 FRPS to his name and has received much accreditation in the Uk and International exhibition circuit.

This talk is all about entering national and international exhibitions. It came about when my own camera club asked me to give them a presentation on the subject. As well as showing some of my successful exhibition images, I decided to ask a few of my `friends` from the exhibition circuit ,if they would be kind enough to let me have a few of their images to give the talk as broad a view as possible to show the type of image that is gaining awards at exhibitions.

I decided that rather than just show the club my `finished exhibition image`, it would be interesting to show them the original raw file, so that they could then see what I started with, and what I finished with ! I then asked some of the other photographers who were helping me if they could also send me their `original raw files` as well .

This has resulted in a very interesting and informative talk that gives not only a good insight into the type of image necessary to gain acceptance at exhibitions, but also shows that sometimes, the finished article is quite remarkably different from the one when the shutter button is pressed !

Everyone is welcome members and non-members alike.   Cost for members is £2.50 and cost for non-members is £5.
